“US – Soviet Relations During World War II: The Path to Victory over Fascism”
Essay Contest
In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the victory over fascism in World War II, please encourage all the students are encouraged to participate in the Writing Contest described below.
The papers may discuss any aspect of the cooperation between the United States the Soviet Union during the tragic period of World War II. Papers should include or address the theme of mutual cooperation in fighting the common enemy, the historic Soviet and American troops meeting at the River Elbe (near Torgau in Germany), and the implications of the shared interest.
Either an essay or a research paper may be submitted. The papers should be written in English. Awards will be given in both High School and University/College divisions, according to the following guidelines:
- High School Division: up to four pages, double spaced, typed in 12 pts, font Times New Roman, 1″ margins.
- University Division: up to eight pages, double spaced, typed in 12 pts, font Times New Roman, 1″ margins; should include at least three bibliographic references.
Either MLA or Chicago style is acceptable.

The papers will be judged by a panel of judges at UCF together with the Russian American Community Center of Florida. The best 5 papers will be send to the president of CENTRAL ASSOCIATION OF RUSSIAN TEACHERS OF AMERICA.
The winners will be announced at the 22-nd CARTA Conference in Washington, D.C. Additionally, the winners will be presented with certificates and prizes.
